Since March 15, there seems to be little intention for the US automaker, Tesla Inc, to set up a factory/ manufacturing set-up to produce more electric vehicles. After the postponement of the plan to come to India and meet Government officials and space tech executives- the EV policy is tweaked to help the local and indigenous players develop the manufacturing facilities for the electric vehicles.
Indian automakers will forward the legacy of building factories for high-end electric cars as the discussions said.
The future of electric vehicles was bright until Tesla Inc, announced their postponement to come to India thereby, leaving the plans of setting up electric vehicle units as it is. After Elon Musk abandoned plans to visit India, established or indigenous players will assume the lead.
Tesla is facing huge financial challenges and heightened competition from China which is said to be the cause for its pullback from India to set up a factory. Now, industry holders and local players will come forward and the government is giving them incentives and tax cuts to establish a proper scenario in the electric vehicles market.
Aggarwal stated on X (previously Twitter) that if the information is accurate, India’s progress in the EV and Lithium ecosystem would leave Tesla behind by the time they revisit India.
India was earlier in talks with the US carmaker leaving our EV market stunned as they withdrew to establish an EV market in India. EVs portray a journey of potential growth and a bright future. But now, after Elon Musk didn’t visit India and left us in the dark. Indian Government will re-energize the local players and go forward with the whole scene of the EV market.
The pullback from India seems to be challenging for the overall automobile industry as such. The Indian Government will boost the EV market with the help of Tata Motors and Mahindra.
